MARK WOOD ON "GROWING UP TWISTED" EPISODE - "BAPTISM BY FIRE"
Mark Wood and Dee Snider have had a longtime friendship - both personally and professionally (those of you familiar with Van Helsing's Curse know exactly what we're talking about!) - so when Dee invited Mark to play his Viper at his granddaughter's christening, Mark immediately agreed. Watch for Laura Kaye in this episode as well! CLICK HERE to visit A&E's website to watch!
NOTE: If you watch the episode on A&E's website, Mark and Laura appear in part 3.

MARK WOOD HONORED BY GOVERNOR OF ARKANSAS
During a visit to Little Rock, Arkansas for one of our Electrify Your Strings programs, Mark Wood and the band were invited to a private reception at the Governor’s Mansion in Arkansas to honor the work he is doing in the field of music education. Governor Mike Beebe and First Lady Ginger Beebe welcomed Wood and the band into their home for an intimate gathering, which included a full tour given by the Governor himself. The visit was so amazing that the Governor invited everyone to visit him at the Capitol the next day which of course they all did! CLICK HERE TO READ THE WHOLE STORY AND SEE ALL THE GREAT PIX!
LOTS OF GREAT PRESS FOR MARK AND EYS
Mark has been getting TONS of great media attention over the years - we decided to post a sampling of several recent articles that appeared in MMR, Music Trades, Strings, and The Royal Gazette (in Bermuda). Here some excerpts:
FROM MMR MAGAZINE: “Wood, appropriately, comes from a family of woodworkers. His grandfather was the architect who built the main building where Ford cars were built in the 1930’s. Another family member built furniture for Amelia Earhart. His father made religious furniture for temples and churches, and the wood shop was just a few minutes from his home in New York. ‘I would ride my bike down to the shop and [tried] to build violins,’ Wood says. Already a prolific string player at 10, he [realized that] for electric versions, the possibilities were limited only by the imagination.
FROM MUSIC TRADES: “I love working with kids who want to participate in their music and not just play what I call the black dots on a white page,” Wood says. “When you think about the culture of the 1700s and Mozart, that culture doesn’t exist anymore. We’ve been able to create a niche and use technology never used before. It helps students interact with the music.”
FROM STRINGS MAGAZINE: “For Mark Wood – violinist, educator, electric violin manufacturer, and enthusiastic mouthpiece for the insanely popular Trans-Siberian Orchestra - the only thing better than playing violin in a classical-tinged rock ‘n roll band is getting to do it in front of thousands of rowdy, amped-up Earhlings who can’t believe their eyes – or ears. ‘There’s nothing like watching 20,000 people rocking out and dancing to Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven,’ says Wood. ‘It’s an awesome thing to see!’”

VIPERS INVADE NASVHILLE!
Wood Violins is proud to announce that two of Nashville’s hottest recording artists, Big & Rich, and Carrie Underwood, have added Viper players to their lineup and all of Nashville is kicking up its collective heels and taking notice. Carrie Underwood’s accomplished and versatile fiddle player, Jimmy Herman, initially approached Wood Violins to build him a 7-string fretted Viper with a highly customized camo finish. He was so thrilled with the results that he promptly ordered a 5-string fretless Viper with a gorgeous champagne sparkle finish for his current tour with Carrie. Jimmy and both of his Vipers have been featured on several major televised events with Ms. Underwood, including the CMA’s, the Grand Ole Opry Induction Ceremony (Carrie is their newest inductee), and the brand-new video for her latest mega-hit “Last Name” which is in heavy rotation on CMT and MTV.
Big & Rich have been touring almost non-stop since Shawn Bailey, their high-energy amazing fiddle player, was presented with his 5-string fretless red pearlized Viper during a concert where Big & Rich shared the bill with rock superstar Bon Jovi. Shawn and his Viper were prominently featured on Good Morning America, the CMA’s and pretty much every TV and concert appearance in which Big & Rich have been involved since the beginning of the year.
Strings will never be the same!

STINGRAY ON THE GRAMMY'S!
There is a real shift and revolution going on the string world, as evidenced by all the violin playing on the Grammy's. VIPERS FEATURED IN THE MUSEUM OF MAKING MUSIC
Not one but TWO stunning Vipers are on display in the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California for their exhibit "The Violin in America: Old World Tradition, New World Sound" which opens on February 23 (and runs through the end of the summer). The ambitious exhibition explores the transplanting of the European violin-making tradition to America and how the New World ultimately created its own identity. It also traces the history of the electric violin and they have wisely decided to choose our VIpers to illustrate this!
