As owner and operator of Mark Wood Music Productions, Mark Wood is an innovative and versatile Emmy-winning composer, acclaimed electric violinist, and inventor. He began his career with a full scholarship to the prestigious Juilliard School of Music and had the privilege of studying under Maestro Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Music Program. As an international recording artist, he has released several albums, including collections of his dramatic and inspirational scores, along with CDs showcasing his unique approach to the electric violin, playing on his own line of patented instruments (see links below for other sites relating to Mark Wood). In the capacity of composer, he has received national recognition by the television industry in the form of an Emmy award for his outstanding work on the 2002 Tour de France bicycle race broadcast on CBS-TV. He has been nominated for an Emmy three times before; the first for an ABC-TV documentary, the second for the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics on CBS-TV, and the most recent for music he composed for the 2003 Tour de France on CBS-TV. With a background as diverse as his, Mark Woods compositional style encompasses a wide range of music for television and film projects. He has toured and recorded with dozens of the worlds most popular performers, including Celine Dion; he also functioned as string arranger on two of her albums. He was the featured violinist in Billy Joels video for All About Soul, appeared on MTV Unplugged with Lenny Kravitz, and performed live with Everclear for New York radio station WPLJ-FM. Mark is also lead violinist and string conductor with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and was awarded a platinum record for his involvement.
In addition, Mark is a New York Foundation for the Arts grant recipient and teaches special Master Classes at the Berklee School of Music and other schools and universities across the country. Along with such formidable colleagues as Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarnari String Quartet, Isaac Stern, and Yo Yo Ma, he is an instructor of a special course at the annual Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camps held in Nashville and San Diego.
